Grievance

Grievance

UT Austin offers multiple options for individuals seeking to address concerns or to file a grievance in a prompt and fair manner. Filing such a complaint with UT Austin is generally considered an appropriate first step, in that it provides an opportunity to resolve the issue at the local level. However, exhaustion of UT Austin’s grievance procedure is not a prerequisite to filing a complaint with either a federal agency or a court.

Grievance Policies

The following University policies govern formal grievance procedures for faculty and staff:

HOP 2-2310: Faculty Grievance Procedure: This policy details the process by which faculty members may seek redress for grievable actions, including discipline, termination, tenure-related decisions, and violations of academic freedom or legal rights. Faculty members should submit a written petition to the Executive Vice President and Provost's Designee using the Faculty Grievance Form.

HOP 5-2430: Grievance Policy:This policy details the process by which classified and A&P staff employees may present and resolve workplace complaints and grievances. Employees should contact Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution (CMDR) to begin the process.
